Legal Issues: Legal Issues Impacting Students - ALT Session 9110
Student achievement is the result of many factors, many of which go beyond the academic. Serving the total student means dealing with all aspects of student life, including legal issues that have far-reaching consequences. Information gained in this session will help participants sort out what they need to know in order to do their jobs and learn where to draw the line on the school involvement in family law disputes. This session will cover family life issues such as divorce, custody, and custody disputes, and legal requirements governing students records, including the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Texas Public Information Act. In addition, having a working knowledge of all these legal issues will help participants in dealing with the day-to-day requests and questions that arise in dealing with students.
