This workshop is for members of the Counselor Initiative and Student Support Services (CISSS) Cooperative ONLY. (To check if your school quailifies, please call Beverly Moore, 972-348-1494.) Internet Safety will discussed in the morning session from 9:00 - 12 noon. The speaker will provide an overview of findings from the latest brain research and discuss the implications these findings have for working successfully with youth in a variety of settings. Participants will explore the effects of emotional trauma, traumatic stress, the role of trust in healing, and implications for those working with youth who have been exploited, bullied, and harassed. The topic for the afternoon session (1 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.) will be Current Drug and Tobacco Trends. This presentation covers current drug trends, including K2 and prescription drugs, and provides information about new tobacco products. Participants must stay for both sessions to receive full credit of 6 hrs. No partial credit will be given.

This is a 3 day workshop. You MUST attend all 3 days to receive a certificate. The Herman Method is a structured, sequential method based on the Orton-Gillingham Method. This method is specifically designed for reading disabled students. It includes a basic skills assessment to teach a carefully controlled reading sequence that is correlated with spelling and handwriting instruction. The training has been newly formatted on a CD containing student and teacher learning and information. This training is limited to 25 registrants. Out of Region Participants will pay $50 a day plus the $150 registration fee to attend. Persons outside of Region 10 must call 972-348-1650 to be placed on the waiting list.

Tejas LEE: El Inventario de Lectura en Espanol de Tejas has been updated! This session is for teachers of grades K-1st. Sessions will include key elements for the assessment program: Spanish reading, comprehension and reading related skills, as well as, the Intervention Activities Guide (IAG) for each grade level. The Tejas LEE is not a translation of an English instrument. Districts are encouraged to send representatives who may train teachers in their districts.

This is a monthly meeting of the Speech Pathologist Association Near Dallas (SPAND), and presenters will be available for each meeting. Please refer to the SPAND website (http://www.spandspeech.com) for more information on the speakers. Prior registration is NOT required for these workshops and walk-ins are welcome.

This session offers training on the newly revised the Texas Primary Reading Inventory (TPRI) for the 2010-2014 school years. Training sessions are designed for specific grade level assessment administrations (K, 1, 2 and 3), and key elements of the assessment program to include grouping, progress monitoring, spelling (grades 1-3 only), and the Intervention Activities Guide (IAG). Districts are encouraged to send representatives who may train teachers in their districts.

This training reviews vocabulary options that are available in the Vantage Lite. You will have a better idea of the most appropriate starting point for the person using the device. You will also learn how to customize and how to save your changes. At least 6 participants will need to be registered or the class will be cancelled. This is a vendor training.

WebCCAT is turning 10 years old and as a present we have given it a whole new look! During this 3hr session educators will learn new features of WebCCAT, navigate the system and build assessments.

First Steps in Mathematics professional development will develop and expand teachers understanding of mathematics and how children learn mathematics. First Steps in Mathematics enables teachers to successfully diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate their students learning experiences. Diagnostic Tasks and Diagnostic Maps within each strand will help teachers to identify students misconceptions about mathematics. Sample lessons and learning activities provide teachers with practical and simple ideas to support students development. This session is designed for classroom teachers. There is a $110 materials fee.
